Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Italian prune plums
  • 1 cup raw walnut halves
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Wash and pat the plums dry. Cut each plum along the seam just enough to pop out the pit, keeping the halves attached at the base, then tuck a raw walnut half snugly inside.

Notes

🔀 Recipe Variations

🌰 Swap the nuts: Raw pecans, slivered almonds, or blanched hazelnuts work wonderfully in place of walnuts, giving each bite a different toasty crunch.
🍁 Swap the sweetener: Replace the granulated sugar with brown sugar for a deeper caramel note, or drizzle pure maple syrup over the plums right before roasting.
🍂 Switch up the warm spices: Swap out cinnamon for a pinch of ground cardamom, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice, or add a drop of pure vanilla extract for an extra bakery-style twist.
🍊 Add citrus zest: Grate a little fresh orange or lemon zest directly over the stuffed plums before baking to brighten the rich, spiced ruby syrup.

🫙 Storage & Make-Ahead

🧊 Storage:

Let the plums cool completely, then gently transfer them and every drop of the thick ruby syrup into an airtight glass jar or container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 5–7 days.

⏳ Make-ahead tip:

You can stuff the plums with walnuts and arrange them in your baking dish up to a day in advance; just cover tightly and refrigerate. When ready, simply sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, then bake as directed.
